Groups of generalised projectivities in projective planes of odd order
The generalised projectivities (GP's) associated with projective planes of odd order are investigated. These are non-singular linear mappings over GF(2) defined from the binary codes of these planes. One case that is investigated in detail corresponds to the group of an affine plane-every point corresponds to a GP. It is shown how many collineations that fix the line at infinity point-wise can ...
متن کاملSharply 2-transitive groups of projectivities in generalized polygons
The group of projectivities of (a line of) a projective plane is always 3-transitive. It is well known that the projective planes with a sharply 3-transitive group of projectivities are classi/ed: they are precisely the Pappian projective planes. It is also well known that the group of projectivities of a generalized polygon is 2-transitive. Here, we classify all generalized quadrangles, all /n...
متن کاملPairwise non-commuting elements in finite metacyclic $2$-groups and some finite $p$-groups
Let $G$ be a finite group. A subset $X$ of $G$ is a set of pairwise non-commuting elements if any two distinct elements of $X$ do not commute. In this paper we determine the maximum size of these subsets in any finite non-abelian metacyclic $2$-group and in any finite non-abelian $p$-group with an abelian maximal subgroup.
متن کاملThe Jacobsthal Sequences in Finite Groups
Abstract In this paper, we study the generalized order- Jacobsthal sequences modulo for and the generalized order-k Jacobsthal-Padovan sequence modulo for . Also, we define the generalized order-k Jacobsthal orbit of a k-generator group for and the generalized order-k Jacobsthal-Padovan orbit a k-generator group for . Furthermore, we obtain the lengths of the periods of the generalized order-3 ...
متن کاملFinite Permutation Groups and Finite Simple Groups
In the past two decades, there have been far-reaching developments in the problem of determining all finite non-abelian simple groups—so much so, that many people now believe that the solution to the problem is imminent. And now, as I correct these proofs in October 1980, the solution has just been announced. Of course, the solution will have a considerable effect on many related areas, both wi...
